Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)

I signed a piece of paper saying yes, my child is coming to your GT program this fall, FCPS. But I have gotten no confirmation, no communication about how buses work (she has to be bused from base school sacc), nothing about class schedules, supplies, etc.
I know that some info is on the school website. But, at some point, do we get some kind of confirmation? Welcome letter? Questionnaire about bus needs? We haven't had bus service before. This is for Mosby woods if any of you are familiar with them. Thanks! |
| Most schools send info within the first 2 weeks of Aug so if you haven't heard anything by the third week of Aug, just call the school. If you are unsure if they have your info correct, call them now to double check. But some schools are still in the thick of summer school so you'll need to wait. |

I don't think they send you much of anything. The bus schedules are not finalized until mid August-ish. I know that we got a letter with bus schedules about 2 weeks before school started. We got nothing in the mail about the supply list, it's just on the website.
You can call the office and ask about needing the bus. We were enrolled in before and after school SACC, so the new school assumed we would not need the bus. Turns out we needed the after school bus and we had to let them know that in the office. |
| Yep late in August. It's incredibly frustrating but agree it's mostly to do with transportation. |
| Did you go to the orientation? They gave out supply lists there in the folder they handed out. |
| All of this was covered at the orientations or it was supposed to be. The acceptence form that you sent back goes to the central office, not the individual school, so your confirmation should come from them in the form of a generic "we got your form" response. You won't hear anything from the individual schools until mid to late August. |
| I'm guessing your child got in on appeal and you missed orientation. That's ok. Same with us last year. I called the school (different school) and met with the principal, who gave my DC and I a tour and told us everything we needed to know. |
| 10:30 here. I was at our school's orientation and they told us nothing about bus schedules or SACC. We had to figure that out on our own. |
| No, we got in the regular cycle and went to orientation. I didn't see anything being handed out at orientation. But thanks for the info, all. |
|
Look on the school website for the supply list. Usually there will be two per grade - one for AAP, the other for GE.
You will get a postcard/letter in August with the open house date and time. |
| They do have their supply lists on their website. When we signed in for the orientation, they handed us a folder. Inside were all kinds of materials about the school including the supply list. |
|
The office there is closed until July 28, I think. I'm sure some information will be coming out in August about the buses. As others mentioned, supply lists are on the website and were distributed at orientation. All I received as far as "confirmation" was a brief email from the main AAP office after I sent in the acceptance form.
The open house is usually the Thursday before school starts and the class lists are posted then. Enjoy the summer and I hope your transportation needs work out well. |
| I would check. My child was assigned to a different school through pupil placement and on the day we were suppose to meet the teachers we found out the paperwork had not gone through properly and my DS was no longer on their list. It was for 1st grade and very upsetting to my DS although it was all worked out before the first day. Now I always check in August. |

I wouldn't worry about it quite yet.
When my daughter started at Haycock, we went to the orientation and sent in our notice indicating our plans to attend. There was no communication from either FCPS or Haycock until we recieved the bus schedule in late August. |
| I've never received a bus schedule in 4 years in FCPS. And no, we're not walkers. The first year, I asked the kids on my street. Each school runs things differently. |
