Haycock Elementary SACC wait list movement

Anonymous
We registered the first day the minute registration started and are placed in the 80's for before school and 120s for after. I knew from other people the wait would be LONG for after care but now I'm thinking we won't even get before care for 2012-13. Can anyone comment on their numbers from this school(I was told by the rep that it was a "tiny" center) in the last two years so we can maybe have an idea of how long it will take us on these lists to get Before and After school care? Also was it worth staying on the lists and finding alternatives for a year or two?Do your kids like it?

It doesn't hurt to stay on the waitlist. You can always turn it down when they call you with an opening. Several years back, we were in the 90's on the waitlist for aftercare. I think (not positive), it took about 2 years before we were called. One other option I'm aware of is a karate studio that picks up kids from Haycock.

Note that if your kid is enrolled at another SACC center FCPS may provide transportation from Haycock to the other SACC.

Do you get to stay on the waitlist at your Base school?(in this example Haycock)Or will your kids basically be in SACC at the other school forever?

WE are in a similar situation and with 2 younger siblings that will eventually go to the elementary. Our first child is pretty far down on a McLean waitlist as well.

Can anyone offer info about how it works with siblings?(advantages for being higher on the list with more than one kid at the same school?)

Siblings do get priority on SACC wait lists but it still doesn't guarantee a spot. I'm not sure exactly how it works (whether they have priority over just other Kindergarteners entering SACC or over other kids already on the waitlist that are older). I too find it really frustrating that the list for Haycock is so long. I'm assuming this is in large part based on the fact that the school is overcrowded and a GT center.

BTW, if you are desparate for BS and AS care try Lemon Rd. Last year there was a bus that took kids from BS care (at Lemon) to Haycock and I have assume one that took them back at the end of the day. It worked out well for my Kindergartener who got bored at the local pre-school (not surprisingly as it wasn't really catering to 6 year olds!). Lemon is not at all crowded (some might say underutilized) and their SACC program is much easier to get a spot at. In the meantime you can stay on the waitlist at Haycock concurent with being at the Lemon RD SACC.

I am wondering too... we must have been on the phone at the exact same time on Monday! Our numbers are the same. People I've asked have told me about 2 years. I figure I have a little bit of time to figure out a plan for fall 2012, but I am pretty much counting SACC out.
