How expensive is pool maintenance in this area?

We are considering buying a home with a pool.

Start by asking the real estate agent! Or the owners of the house you're considering!

we are, too - hope it isn't the same place! Would be interested in this cost as well - although the house needs a lot of OTHER work. The pool is actually in decent shape.

It's not cheap. Around 100.00 per visit depending on the size of the pool. We only have service bi-weekly since ours is a new pool and has salt water so we don't need to deal with chemicals.

If it is a newer pool, they are more low-maintenance and pretty easy to take care of yourself. I would ask the current homeowners who they use and how much it costs. I thought we had the most expensive service in town but when I compared prices with other pool service companies, I found they were all pretty comparable.

You also need to consider the increase to your home owner's insurance cost. If I were you, I'd get as much insurance as possible because having a pool is a liability, especially with kids around. Regardless if you opt to increase your coverage, your premium will be higher than a similar property w/o a pool.
