Is the culture of India (sub-cultures, actually) one of the most important in the world?

All things considered, historically speaking. In your educated opinion.

Art, architecture, religion, contributions to the rest of the world, etc. I am having a dispute with someone and welcome input from anyone who has studied this issue at all. Thank you!

Aren't they (all cultures) all important?

To someone, somewhere, yes. but some cultures have been powerhouses, historically speaking.

Does India fit that bill?

I would say no, but history is not finished being written. India does not have the prior greatness of China.

But India is projected to have the world's highest GDP sometime in the future.

No, only Western Civilizations are important.

Actually, India has a long rich history. Their art is beautiful. They have an interesting history in medicine. Not sure why most Americans know little to nothing about India.

And to the poster above, America was a colony.

The most important culture to people is the one in which they live.

I think it a bit different to compare America's colonization with India. Duh. Of course America was a colony, it started out that way! India was one of the most populated countries/areas in the world at the time of its conquest by the Brits.
