Why the heck is DC car registration renewal so expensive?

$122 for a year $209 for 2 years? Why does DC do things to make people want to move instead of encouraging them to stay? This is ridiculous.

You're kidding me, right? $104 for a year of car registration? With the well-known negative externalities that go with private car ownership? We should be paying $1000 a year at least.

There was an increase on July 1, but it is still $72 for a car less than 3,499 lbs. OP must have a SUV.
