ADD/ADHD Testing

Anonymous
I have a strong feeling that my child has ADD/ADHD and was wondering how one goes about assessing this. DC is very bright, verbal, physical and active and has some impulse control issues.

Also, does anyone have any good non-medical suggestions for dealing with a situation such as this? I have tried fish oil capsules and OT for movement. Not sure how effective they are.

Thanks.

there may be other ways, but we took dd to a developmental pediatrician (Dr. Conlon). his initial visit is quite long and he does an assessment at that time. he also, of course, re-asseses at every follow up visit. he does not have a trigger finger with an ADHD diagnosis, as i have said in other posts. we felt pretty certain that dd had it, but he is not so sure at this time. we are watching/waiting.

Thanks so much for the information. Where is Dr. Conlon located? Were you at all worried that a diagnosis would follow your child? I realize that that is a bit neurotic, especially if a child needs treatment.
Also, if Dr. Conlon felt a child has ADHD, does he treat them as well (medication, neurofeedback, etc.....)? Any additional information would be truly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Dr. Conlon is located in Bethesda. He will manage ADHD with medication and other methods if that is the decision made.

so far, we don't actually have a diagnosis and so i am not worried that it will follow my child. ultimately, i will not be worried about that though because i think it is more important that teachers/the school have the best info to meet the child's needs. so far we don't have an IEP or any of that. but that could change.
