Small amount of blood behind placenta

Anonymous
So I had my a vaginal ultrasound yesterday and saw the baby (or embryo at this point I guess!). I am measuring right where I should be 6 weeks3days and they could see a heart bea. However, they saw some blood behind placenta...I haven't had any spotting and they said it was a common thing to see at this point but I'm really nervous now. Has anyone else had this?

I had a subchorionic bleed at about the same point in pg as you did. I was told that it is not uncommon, and typically resolves itself (blood reabsorbed) within a few weeks. Checked at 12 week u/s and was gone.

My doc advised pelvic rest in interim, but I do believe it is not something *terribly* worrisome

PP--thanks! Since I'm new at this, what exactly does pelvic rest entail?

Pelvic rest = no sex, no o

I had the same thing - a subchorionic bleed at about 8 or 9 weeks. I had a gush of blood and when I went to the doctor, they saw a big blood clot on the ultrasound. But by 12 weeks it had completely disappeared. Now I'm 20 weeks along and everything is going well.

By bleed did not resolve itself so I had spotting off and on well into the 2nd trimester. Everything was fine, but I was also on pelvic rest and at one point put on bed rest.

I too had a sudden burst of blood at 9 weeks. The ultrasound showed blood behind the placenta. As a result, I had 3 more ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy to see if it would be reabsorbed. And it did. Apparently, this is very common and in most cases, the blood just gets reabsorbed. FWIW, i never had to go on bedrest or altered rest.
