Estimate Cost of Professional Movers for local move

Anonymous
Does anyone have a ballpark estimate for the cost of professional movers to move us 2 miles from a 1300 square foot 2-bedroom condo to a 4 bedroom house? What have recent comparable moves cost you and can you recommend the company? Thank you.

On the beltway movers website there is tool for an online estimate.

I used it for my local move (for moving out of a 4 bdrm house) and it was in-line with the in-home estimates I got from 2 other movers.

We just moved locally at the end of June and were very pleased with Beltway Movers in Rockville. We contacted a few movers for estimates (all charged by the hour for local moves) and picked Beltway based on the reviews we found on the movingscams website.

They were fantastic. Arrived early, handled our belongings with care, very professional, and came in well under their time estimate. I'd highly recommend them. Mac coordinated our move.

If you're not anywhere near Rockville, check out the movingscam website for companies (I learned about it from another DCUM thread). Really helpful for learning which companies to avoid.

We are doing a similar move but a little farther - approx 10 miles - and have gotten quotes of roughly $700-1400. Most movers quotes 6-7 hrs and are $90-190 per hour.

We just used Two Marines Moving and I cannot say enough good things about them. They packed AND moved us from a 3BDR townhouse in DC to a 5 BDR house in Vienna. Their estimate for the whole job was $2500, and it came to $2575, so they were spot on. I would think $1500 for your job sounds about right. Call them, they are really good, and the crews are all just out of the service so they were young and buff ... a little eye candy for your move certainly doesn't hurt

We are moving along with a bunch of friends from 2br condos in the city to houses in the suburbs and have gotten quotes from Smooth Movers for $1000-$1400 including packing.

We paid about $1200 to move a 3-bedroom house about 8 miles. The moving service was somewhat "no-frills" but a friend recommended them and they got good reviews on yelp (which of course you have to take with a grain of salt.) They were prompt, friendly, and most importantly they got the job done with no more than a few minor nicks and scratches in our stuff. I think they were called Noble Movers.

Our move from our 3-BR townhouse to storage cost us just under $1,500. This was 2 weeks ago, by Town & Country movers. They quoted us an hourly rate and the number of guys needed, plus travel time.

We used Great Scott (highly recommended) for a local move of about the same size, ended up being about $750 plus a tip of $40 per person ($120 total).

This site has a great BallPark Estimator. I think it is more for Long Distance but it would still give you a ballpark figure.
Just enter where you are moving from to and it does the rest. There are many options you can select such as whether you are doing the packing, tips and insurance.

Hope that helps.
Good luck with your move.
