I've heard the new Serendipity in Georgetown is the place to go...anyone tried it?

I worked at Brigham's in high school and I agree it's the best hot fudge!

I think before Giffords went down hill (or further down hill, depending on your perspective) they had decent hot fudge-- they ended up having to close all the stores and are just reopening them. I think the one on Friendship Heights is now open, and while I haven't tried it yet, it might be worth a shot.

Thomas Sweets in Georgetown. There's always a line though in the summer.

We went to serendipity a few weeks ago and I was kind of disappointed in our sundae. We got the one with the chocolate cake, and instead of putting the ice cream on top of the cake so that the cake softens up and melts into the ice cream, they put the ice cream in the dish and then slap a whole piece of cake on top. When my kids tried to dig into the cake, it smushed down and made the ice cream go shooting out of the cup and into the dish, which was annoying. And when we did get to the ice cream, my DH actually remarked that it seemed like they forgot to put in the hot fudge. But, that being said, I think if you get a "make your own" type sundae without any cake or other frou-frou stuff, it'll probably be much better.

This sounds very pedestrian, but I've had good hot fudge sundaes at ben and jerry's. Also, the various ice cream places on King street in Old Town Alexandria have really good ice cream and hot fudge.

The fro yo place across from the national zoo has free hot fudge. It's so good.
