Ikea children's bed?

Anonymous
I noticed Ikea has these "children's" size beds. It looks like they're about 10" longer than a crib.

Has anyone used one of these? How long did you use it for? I've heard Ikea mattresses aren't the greatest -- what did you think?

our daughter is a little bit over 2 y.o. and she has a toddler's bed from Ikea w/ an Ikea mattress. They are both great and she loves her bed! We've used it about six months so far and will use it until she seems ready to move into a twin.

FYI, we skipped the toddler bed.

We went from crib (birth to 2, almost 3 years) to mattress on the floor (when we moved a zillion miles away and took time to buy a new bed), to a twin with removable side rail (for one month, so buy a used rail on Craigslist to save the environment), to just the twin.

Thank you. We are all grateful that the environment is now safe because you were willing to buy something on Craigslist.

I don't think she was necessarily saying that she bought one on Craigslist (though maybe she did), but that they only ended up using it for one month, so it would benefit others to buy on Craigslist in order to both save money and "the environment".

Uhm, yeah...

OP here. Here's another question: if I don't get an ikea bed, where do I buy a cheap, but comfortable, mattress for a standard platform bed? Ikea mattresses are a funny size.

We bought our son the Kritter toddler bed from IKEA. Now, his younger sister is using it after we moved him to a twin bed. We like the toddler bed because it's a good size for our small townhouse bedrooms. The IKEA mattress we have is very comfortable, too but you will need to buy sheets from IKEA because the mattress is an unusual size.

At least some of the IKEA beds extend to a full twin-sized bed, they're just lower to the ground.

My 5yo is still in one. We purchased it when she was 2.5. It isn't even fully extended yet and she's very tall for her age. Love that thing and it isn't goingt anywhere anytime soon.

Hmm. Sometimes I want to know who is who on this board. Anyway, yeah, we did buy a used rail. We knew we'd only use it for a short while. We suspected this was true for many folks, and sure enough, the father who gave us his son's old one said they used it for only three weeks. We freecycled it on after our daughter used it. Not sure what we'd have done with it otherwise. Just tossed it in the trash, I suppose. Seems like such a waste.
