Tiny house. North-facing living room is the first room you walk into. Two rose victorian parlor chairs in it at the moment, Dutch blue tiles around the hearth. The rest is a blank slate.
What color would you paint the walls? Thank you for your opinion! (I was thinking a blue-green, not bright but slightly grey to make it a bit more elegant. Btu DH thinks this is too cold, and wants a light peach color.) |
Pottery Barn Kids has a really beautiful blue - it's got some green, but it's very muted, with a bit of gray. I don't remember the name and the paint colors aren't online, but if you can get hold of a catalog, look for it there. I'm considering using it for my guest room, though their green is nice too. (and similarly muted, with a touch of gray.) you might also check restoration hardware - their Shore Paint collection is nice.
I think your husband might be right. Have you thought about a cream? Maybe Philadelphia Cream by Benjamin Moore? It's in their historic paint color collection.
Our living room was gray for years, and it was a color I really liked. However, we recently painted it a very creamy yellow, and I was really surprised at how much more pleasant the room is in a warmer color.
Philadelphia Cream sounds pretty. I painted my small family room (which has a fireplace with bluish grayish tiles) Linen White by Benjamin Moore. The previous owners had had a darker color in the room and the lighter color brightens it up and makes it seem bigger.
Yes, BM's Linen White is a very pretty neutral. I've used it before and loved it. Depends on how "creamy" you want to go. Philadelphia Cream will definitely come off as having pale yellowish undertones, but in a good way if you like a strong cream color. With a southern exposure, it might seem to yellowish for some (although I love pale yellow walls). I think it would work very well in a northern exposure.

I hate cream walls- they are depressing and bland. I like real colors. Forget trends and pick the colors you love that will make you happy when you walk into the room. Your blue/gray/green would look great.
I did mine in a BM teal color. I don't remember the name but I love it! It's a little dark but I just added a few lamps. I get lots of compliments on it and it is a bluish green with a little hint of grey

Try Windham Cream. It looks like pale butter. Go 1/2 strength if it's too yellow in your light. |
Don't go with a light peach. We had light peach in our MBR (former owner's paint choice) and after trying to live with it the last 5 years, we finally broke down and changed it. It's Cappuccino by Martha Stewart, and we LOVE the color. It's the most perfect warm coffee color. Our bedroom has north and east facing windows. Highly recommend it.
