American Apparel ads

I'm not typically conservative and don't promote censorship, but these ads on DCUM are really getting to me... I am most often on the general parenting discussion forum and so tired of having to look at a very young girl's naked bum in the banner ad! You know the one? She's in two photos, side by side, a lace thong bodysuit, looking over her shoulder at the camera. They don't seem relevant to the audience ...or are they getting a load of clicks?

I don't control the ads. They are managed by Google Adsense. During the last several months, Google has really drilled in on placing ads that it thinks are relevant to the user. I've never been to the American Apparel website or Googled them. In fact, I am not sure that I've even heard of them until now. As a result, I've never had one of those ads displayed to me.

Out of curiosity, can you think of a reason Google would connect that ad with you? For instance, have you been to American Apparel's website?

I'll see if I can get that ad so that I know what you are talking about.

Humm, all of their ads are displayed here:

It appears that risque advertising is their thing. They are probably hoping to generate controversy to get some free publicity.

Oh, that's so funny ... I never thought of them being related to me. Months back, I did look at their website for baby boy clothes and then Googled their local stores to see which carry kids'. Sneaky Google.

Clear all of your cookies. That "might" make the ad go away.

This happened to me lately too - not American Apparel, but Public Bikes. I had been looking at their site to buy one of their bikes, and then their ads were on every page. Cleared history/cookies and they are gone... just usual job and Amazon nonsense.

Convinced me NOT to buy a bicycle from them, btw.
