Neti Pot?

Anonymous
I have terrible sinuses which have been under control for a few years and all of a sudden this year its sinus infection after sinus infection. My issue is that I dont get the bad mucus, my nasal passages swell up to virtually close my nasal passage and I cannot even blow anything out because there is nothing to blow.

I am sick of sprays and antibiotics so I bought the neti pot. Has anyone even used this for severe sinus issues? Does it work?

I used it twice yesterday and it helped a bit but I am back to swollen sneezing today. Any suggestions on how often to use it...I really hope it helps.

Once a day at most for a week or two, then maybe a couple times a week.

& yeah, it has worked really well for me. My hairdresser recommended it a month or two ago and I feel a lot better since then. It was weird at first but I got over that quickly!

I started using a neti pot last winter and it has changed my life. When I feel a cold or sinus infection coming on (or during high hay fever season), I use it morning and night. All other times, just in the morning. I can't tell you what a relief it's been not to have an itchy, runny or stuffy nose. I haven't had a cold for more than 1-2 days since I started it, and my allergies are much, much better.

Thanks pps! I am so happy to know I did not buy sme dumb fad that does not work. It is one of the strangest feelings when you do it (my DH almost puked, ha) but it felt so good after I used it.

I will continue to try it a couple times a day until the swelling gets better and then just use it a few times a week!

I don't use the netipot but I use the Neil Med squeeze bottle. I too agree that it was life changing! I can't go a day without using it. I still get sinus infections, but I think this drastically reduces it. One thing you may want to try on top of it that my ent and allergst have suggested is if you feel a cold or sinus infection, immediately start using a decongestant to help open up your passages and use Afrin for a day or two to help open up also. This combo on top of the nasal rinses really has helped me. Keep it up!

I tried the neti pot several times, but felt like I was drowning each time. Not worth it for me.

I use this one too and it seems like it gets more "gunk" out. If you really need to get stuff out, use 2 of the saline packs instead of just one. If I feel a cold/sinus infection starting, I up the sinus rinse to 2x's per day (with 2 saline packets), mucinex extra-strength, and sudafed. Rarely ever do I need antibiotics now!

My husband said it reminded him of getting out of a swimming pool, but I was the second or third poster on this thread and we both use it a couple times a week and feel much better for it.

Op here... Used it again today but had to supplement with afrin spray... Which i know is bad to use a few days in a row but it's the only thing that takes down the swelling. Neti pot helped but my nasal passage was so swollen the water almost got stuck! It would only slowly trickle out... Ugh I will keep at it though!

The Neti Pot has been the only thing to work for me for the past 10 years. I have tried ALL kinds of allergy medicines, some which left me in a fog, more tired than ever, or just plain didn't do a thing. I even got allergy shots when I was younger. Nothing worked. My chiropractor suggested the neti many years back and I could not be happier. I use it daily.

how do you use the neti pot. I can't do it. Is the water suppose to come out the other nostril? I tilt my head but I don't know what I am suppose to do.

i've used a squeeze bottle for about 10 yrs. it changed my life. the number of sinus infections has drastically gone down, and when i lived in a high pollution city in china, i used it 1-2x/day. it was key because i was wary of taking drugs there.

The water is supposed to come out the other nostril. You tilt your head over the sink while pouring in the water into one nostril. If nothing is coming out the other side, then you may be just utterly stuffed up. Look on youtube - there are a couple of excellent videos of a 4 and 7 yo doing it.
