I've seen people here use it (see SIL/Paltry Food thread), and DH uses it. Is it a Southern thing?
It makes no grammatical sense. "Upside" is not a preposition. Where did this come from? |
|
From midwest. Heard it growing up.
There's lots of slang that make no grammatical sense. Hence, why its slang. |
| OMG! I'm from Oklahoma and definitely used/heard the phrase. Except we would say, "Whoop upside the head." Haven't you heard the song, "Ooops upside your head" by the Gap band? lol |
| Pimp lingo. |
No. |
|
Yes, it is a phrase used in many, if not all, regions of the US, usually as a joke.
Yes, it is not grammatically correct. Get over yourself. Poor DH. |
My grandmother would be distressed to hear that. |
| Seems trashy to me. |
| Personally, I prefer "snatch you baldheaded". As in "Chile! If you don't come up off my good chair, I'm gonna snatch you baldheaded!" |
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz You must be the life of the party. |
Where do you think the pimps learned it? |
Too far, PP. Too far. |
| It's just an expression. Lots of expressions don't make literal sense. |
pwned. |
|
Just an expression. If it bothers you, and you would like to use it yourself, you could always say "I am going to whack you on the side of your head". See, now if someone said that to me, I would think that they are looking to injure me. When I have had a friend say "I am gonna whack you upside the head", I know she is kidding around.
Personally, I am more concerned with people who like to use LOL, WTH, OMG. That always makes me feel like a 12 year old is writing. |
