Why do we visit DCUM?

So, I find DCUM very helpful when I have real questions about parenting or when I was trying to set up a nanny share. I posted a question or an ad, and people responded, which was awesome.
That being said, I don't work outside the home over the summer (I'm in education), so I have a lot of free time these days, and more often than not, when I have a spare 10 minutes (or even a spare few hours in the evening after my daughter has gone to sleep), I go onto DCUM and read some of the latest threads. I just spent an HOUR reading the country club thread. I read about other people's MILs. I read about people's children having different penis sizes. The more time I spend on here, the harder it is for me to tear myself away, like a marathon of Jersey Shore. Why am I doing this? Do you do it too (read threads that have nothing to do with your life when you could be spending your time doing something more productive)? Who are all of you that read and post on here regularly? How much time do you spend on this site daily? Do you consider this to be a good use of your time? I am being serious here and don't mean to be rude, I just don't understand how there are so many threads with so many posts when most people posting are busy mothers and fathers.

You nailed it...it is like a junk-tv binge. A way to veg out and be mindlessly entertained. There are healthier outlets...but also much worse ones.

I go on binges. There are long periods of time when I don't visit at all. I usually come back when I need to vent about something. I like to blow off steam so that I can calm down and handle whatever the issue is with more calm in real life.

It is like a good junky magazine that updates in real life - crazy people, drama, some very funny writers with genuine wit, interspersed with useful titbits on places to go with kids, real estate trivia, etc.

To annoy people, to get a good argument going, and to have fun.

I post things that get under your skin and even though I completely agree with you, I will post the opposite just to get a heated discussion going. I will post things that are not proper English to get the grammar police upset and I learn a lot about how not to treat my kids and spouse.

I visit when I'm stressed at work or feel overwhelmed. I need a minute to step back, read something silly, and then back into the breach.

Sometimes I even read it for parenting advice!
