Thinking of buying in Chevy Chase, DC. We currently live in Dupont Circle. We like being able to walk to retail, etc.
For those who live in Chevy Chase do you feel isolated? Those who we have talked to say once you live there you can't imagine living anywhere else in DC. Please let us know if you feel the same. We are a young family looking for our next neighborhood in DC. |

I live in Chevy Chase DC and I do feel horribly alone sometimes.
But then, once I walk to the Safeway on Connecticut, I suddenly feel part of the great throbbing mass of humanity once again. yes, the fruit is rotten, the selection is one of the worst in the civilized world, and the staff are miserable, but at least I am no longer so lonely. And beyond its doors, the fleshpots of Chevy Chase DC....the bagel place, McGruders, the weird little Greek place.....or yomp up to Friendship Heights and immerse yourself in the Cheesecake Factory. Friday nights at Chadwicks... Truly, I cannot imagine living anywhere else in the world, let alone DC. It would be madness. |
Best ever post.

| Depends how far away from Wisconsin or Conneecticut you are. If you're in between the two, you're golden[list]. Just aim to be a comfortable walking distance to one of the two (preferably Wisconsin) and you won't miss Dupont. In fact it will be better than Dupont considering that there are more kid friendly things to do up here. |
This. I live close to Wisconsin and LOVE it. Great parks in the area. I walk everywhere with the kids. I drive my car maybe once a week. |

I used to live in Dupont/Kalorama Triangle before kids. Loved that.
Now I live in CCDC 15 years later, and I love living here for completely different reasons. It's best not to compare the two if your goals for each are entirely different. Agree with PPs that the key is to live close to the avenue(s) and not on, like, 28th street so far north you're touching East-West Hwy. That IS isolating, I bet, or at least car driving 100% of the time. Tho the park is nice up there, it must be said. |
| We live within walking distance of the Politics and Prose strip and love it. Hang out at the cafe, run errands at CVS, get my nails done at the Korean place. You get used to a different pace, but the benefits are worth it. |
| How are the non-central area of CC? Dunlop Hills for example? It is obviously not as walkable. Are there families there? |
