Opportunities to volunteer with Obama campaign in DC

Anonymous
Hello all,

I was referred to this site by a friend. I am volunteering for the President's re-election campaign in DC. I understand that plenty of people don't support the President and I respect your opinions. I am posting this information for those who would like to know about community events in their neighborhood. We have two major volunteer opportunities coming up next week.

The first is a phone bank on July 12 from 5-9 pm at the Democratic National Headquarters (430 S. Capitol St. SE). Here is a link to sign up: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/phonebank/gpk39y .

The other opportunity is the Voter Registration Day of Action on July 16th from 9:45 am - 2 pm. We will be meeting at the Democratic National Headquarters and carpooling to Northern Virginia. It should be a very exciting event as staffers from the DNC will be joining us!. Here is a link to sign up for the event:http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/voterregistrationdrive/gpkmjt .

Those are just a few upcoming opportunities. I definitely recommend checking barackobama.com to look for future events. I would really love to see you at a future event!

Feel free to contact me at sgehrke@summerorganizers.org or (312) 320-9863

Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah - I am a centrist democrat. I used to support Obama, but you guys tricked me into thinking Obama would be a change in the status quo of the Bush years. Now I am looking for a reasonable democratic or third party candidate who will actively and publicly support social safety net programs such as social security and medicare; who thinks the economy needs more government support, rather than less government support; and who thinks that big companies need to have less influence over financial, environmental, food and drug regulators. Don't even get me started on torture and privacy rights.

At any rate, I realize Obama is not an extremist Republican, but I would appreciate it if you and your candidate would switch parties and support him from his rightful place as a moderate Herbert Hoover Republican. If not, I will have to vote for a third party candidate. This may not be a victorious strategy, but it will at least help me get a small voice in the national debate.

Signed,

Moderate Democrat

Dear Sarah,

I am a liberal Democrat. I can't remember the last time Obama did something that made me proud. I fully expect he will give in to the Republican blackmail over the debt ceiling and agree to deep cuts in important programs despite the fact that letting the BUsh tax cuts expire, ending the wars, and actually investing in infrastructure would do much more for the deficit and our economy. I will probably vote for him But there is no way I will be spending my time phonebanking for him this time around.

Yea, sorry to say but Obama was a big disappointment. I really supported him, and felt like I was making a smart choice. I will not be making this mistake twice.

I am a moderate democrat, but I would seriously consider voting for a third party candidate. Let's not kid ourselves, Obama is a Republican. As a result, there is literally no one standing up for social security, medicare, the uninsured, the unemployed, the right of labor to organize. I actually can't stand some unions, but if capital can get concentrated among a few wealthy and powerful interests, then labor has every right to organize as well. I don't expect Obama or Democrats to win all these political battles, but I at least want someone to make a case for these issues. I would rather fight for what I honestly believe is right and moral than just vote for the least-bad candidate. Please Democrats, get some backbone and send a message to your party! This country desperately needs a moderate-liberal coalition. I seriously am excited about voting against Obama. Join me!

As disappointing as Obama has been he has been 100x better than a Republican would be. Feel free to vote for Ralph Nader (again) if you want Michele Bachmann or someone else to the right of George Bush to be elected.

How anyone could expect a two year senator (1 spent campaigning for president) with no prior significant executive experience to be up to the job of POTUS is beyond me. Being president is more than just speeches and photo ops. He's completely out of his league. Recently elected mayor of Chicago Rahm Emmanuel now officially has more executive experience than Obama did when elected. Hilary Clinton, whatever else you think of her, was the best choice the Democrats had for the country.

You my be right about Hillary, and a lot of Dems thought so at the time (although I was for Obama). But there is no way to know whether either HRC or JM/SP would have done a better job. By now, BO clearly has more experience than any opponent, so I don't think lack of experience is the criterion you want to apply if defeating Obama is your goal.

But you won't convince me to vote Republican because Obama was not strong enough to defeat Republican mischief-making. I don't reward saboteurs!

11:01 here. In case it was not obvious, I will almost surely vote for BO, and may even work for him, but not with the enthusiasm of '08. But it's not clear to me how the two PP's feel about BO and what surprises them about the earlier posts. Surely it is well known that a lot of liberals are disappointed.

BO is in way over his head, but that was clear from the very beginning.
I just could never understand why a guy who would use glittering rhetoric to the effect that "when I'm president, all parties will come together to the table and reach an agreement on reforming this and that" would have any appeal, but I guess a lot of people confuse their own wishes with reality.
Seriously? All parties will come to the table and bend to your wishes, when they have billions and billions of dollars at stake and they own you, not the opposite? Well, we now can see what that led to.

However, the other side is nothing but a bunch people who are bought and paid for by the billionaires who really run this ship and who won't be satisfied until they turn it into a third-world country (third-world countries are wonderful places to live if you are rich). So I guess I have no choice but to vote for BO.

As a DC resident, I cannot support the re-election of Obama. Obama has betrayed DC residents and refused to stand up for them, time and time again.

I will not vote for him again what's the difference? With OB or the republican candidate, the only difference is how fast you go right. My god, I thought the republicans were tight with wall streets. Now OB is talking about caving on the Medicare, ss, and the debt. He is just rolls over on everything, no leadership. He just gives the republicans cover, he believes in republicans.

I don't think the OP planted her post, and there are clearly a lot of disappointed Dems but it's also true that Republicans have been known to pretend to be Democrats online in an effort to try and cause trouble for the Dems.
