Expectant mom new to Kensington and looking for infant care starting in November

Anonymous
I'm expecting my first baby at the beginning of August and and am new to Kensington. I'd be greatful for your recommendations about how to tackle the child care search in the Kensington/Chevy Chase/Rockville area!

I'm looking for part-time care, ideallly from 8am-1pm 5 days per week. What are the best options for me to look in to? It seems difficult to find part-time slots at day care centers, so perhaps in-home care or a nanny share would be good ideas? But I am of course concerned about cost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think it will be hard to find an in-home daycare that will charge you less for 8-1 than for a full day unless you proactively find another family that wants to take the rest of the day. If you're there from 8-1, you're pretty much taking up a full slot. My provider does occasionally have older kids who go to preschool in the morning, so maybe you could find a share situation like that.

That's a good point. And I'm actually pretty flexible with the hours - I just need childcare for about 4 hours a day so I can work part-time. I suppose I could also do an arrangement where I do full-day care a few days per week. Are there any providers in the area who you'd suggest I contact?

My child starts school in November so Our wonderful nanny will be looking for a Tuesday/Thursday job. She is also available the rest of the time after 1:30pm. Are you flexible?
