Movers that offer a flat rate?

we are looking for movers right now too. the last time we moved, we used uship and got bid for our moves. We ended up paying $450 to move a 1br+den.

Big Green movers charge by the hour but give you a cap which is 10 percent above their estimate.

local or long-distance?

All of the companies we talked to for our upcoming move, charged by the hour - but they did guarantee their quote within 5-10%. I think the most reputable companies are going to charge by the hour.

My parent's used J&K movers to move from NOVA to midwest. They packed them too. They got an estimate, contract, and paid a small deposit. The estimate was close to (they charge by weight) what they paid and everything got there safely.

It depends on where you live. In Virginia for a move over 30 miles, they must charge by weight vs. the hour. It's mandated by the state. We just got 3 estimates for a long distance (more than 30 miles) move within VA.
