First I should learn how to spell it ...
How do I prepare this? Do I buy fresh or frozen? Shelled or unshelled? Add any seasonings, oil, salt? Thanks! |
| Edamame. Trader Joe's has frozen edamame that is pretty good and can be microwaved. I just add salt to it. |
| It it is shelled, I steam them (frozen) in a shallow sauce pan or wok with a little water for about 3-5 min. Once the water is gone, I add some olive oil, garlic and coarse sea salt and stir fry until the soy beans are soft. Delish! |
| *If* shelled. . . |
| I just thaw in microwave and add a little salt. Shelled is faster, but sometimes I enjoy shelling the edamame. it makes me feel like I'm in a restaurant. I like adding them to salads. They have a lot of protein and healthy fat. I get Trader Joe's sometimes, but the brand I get from H mart tastes sweeter and better. |

I served it unshelled with sea salt and a squirt of lemon. To eat, you sort of suck the beans out of the shells.
FYI - some people think you should avoid edamame if you are TTC because soy protein can mess with estrogen levels. So, if that's an issue for you, you may want to approach with caution. |

I buy bags of the frozen, unshelled. Boil according to the package (usually 5 to 7 minutes), drain, add salt, devour.
I only buy the shelled type if I am making a salad or side dish with it. |
| Shelled for eating, kids love to pop open. Unshelled to add to other dishes. We love them. |
| boil with lots of salt |
