Carrera marble and Pottery Barn Bathroom Sink Consoles?

Anonymous
If you have experience with either or both in your bathroom, I'd appreciate your input. I just ordered 2 Covelo consoles for our bathrooms sight unseen. Does Carrera marble do well in a bathroom? Have you had good luck with PB sink consoles? It was not completely impulsive a purchase; I couldn't find anything in our price range that had the look I wanted, and these were on sale. I've had luck with pieces from PB in the past. I find their quality "good enough" for the price.

We have a PB vanity with a granite top. My only complaint is that the granite is a little thin. Otherwise it has held up very well and looks good. We also have carerra marble in another bathroom on the floor and the countertops. I love the look of it. It can be prone to staining but I have not found it noticeable. One thing to watch for is rings from soap dispensers.

I have marble in my kitchen so I can give you a few tips. The first thing I'd do is seal it with something like Marble 511 Impregnator. You can buy it at Home Depot or order it online. It's very simple, you just wipe the sealant on, let it sit about 5 minutes, then wipe it off. You shouldn't have any problems with stains. You probably will get etching, which is different from staining (it's a mark often left by water or something acidic). Etching is usually only visible in certain lights.

You need to figure out if the marble is polished or honed. Unfortunately, I think the marble will probably be polished since honed is more expensive. If it is polished, there's not much you can do for etching, except try to prevent it by wiping up any water, spills as soon as you see them or you can have it repolished every year or so. If the marble is honed, all you need to do is buy one of those 3M green scrubby pads. You can use a little marble cleaner and the green pad and "sand" off any etch.
