I am looking at homes and want an open kitchen like many of the rehabs out there. Some houses we like don't have an open kitchen, so I'd like to know roughly how much it costs to knock down a way (say in a Colonial) and create an open kitchen. I have no experience in remodeling and am not a do-it-yourselfer, so I'd need to hire a conracter for all of it. I just want a ball park/order of magnitude since I haven't the faintest idea. Thanks! |
Depends on if it's a weight bearing wall or not. We had a non-weight bearing wall knocked down for about $1400. We also punch a 5-foot entrance into a weight bearing wall and put up french doors, and that ran for about $3100 (which includes the doors). |
