Adding a bathroom to your house - anyone done it?

Anonymous
We live in a close-in 3br/1 ba home. We love the house, but with 2 little girls are thinking that we may eventually want to add another bath. There is lots of room in the basement for one, but no other space unless we build a small addition.

Thoughts? Approximate costs for installing a shower/toilet in the basement? Thanks!

You're probably looking at $25,000-$30,000 for a brand new bath with basic finishes - nothing special - home depot grade. The major costs will be digging up the basement slab to get access to existing plumbing and insall new plumbing.

We're in the same position as you. a 3br/1ba close in house. Our laundry room is in the basement, so hopefully, it won't be as expensive getting plumbing right beside the laundry room. That is a BIG hopefully.

We got a quote for 7000 for labor plus 2000-5000 for materials to add a full bath to our finished basement.

Anyone add a half bath to existing space? Like a closet? Or do a bump out to create a bath?
