This is a interesting site. It lets you generate lists of the highest and lowest cost schools in a specific category. As I see it, the major drawbacks to the site are that (1) you cannot get a glimpse of the middle (it only deals with the ends of the spectrum) (2) it does not include room and board (only tuition) so you do not get a true costs of attendance number and (3) there is no easy way to compare a group of schools.

I saw this early today. IMO, the best part about the site is the Search for Colleges link. That does allow you to get more specific information on each school and they do have ways to compare them. |
Yeah, I think it is a bit useless. I went to a school that ranked high in the tuition category and it is a bit misleading. For one thing, the school combines tuition and room and board together, it is not broken out, so that brings up the total. Also, it is in a rural area and most kids live on campus (which is why they add room and board to the total) so the cost of living is much less. I would think a private college in a big city where most kids have to live off campus would fall into most expensive, GW or GU for example. |
Try search for the college at this website. I think it may be more helpful. http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/ |
