| For a family with 2 kids that would like to start out in public and see how that progresses. We want single family homes, not too snobby, kid friendly, doesn't have to be totally metro accessible, max budget is $900k. Thanks. |

Any of them: Palisades, AU Park, Wesley Heights, Spring Valley, Tenleytown, North Cleveland Park, Forest Hills, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights are great, good schools across the board. If metro access isn't a priority, spend time in each one and see what feels comfortable.

| Love Barnaby Woods. |
| If you want walkability and metro I don't think you can do better than the Friendship Heights end of ChCh though there isn't much on the market and they are snapped up quickly. Murch school district. Brand new park at Livingston and 41st. All the retail you could want. Library, community center for the kIds. A ton of families. Can you tell we're about to close on a house there? We're extremely happy. The part of AU park near Fr Heights also fits much of the above but ChCh is in between both the Wisc Ave retail and Conn Ave retail so you'd have walking access to more. |
| We love Chevy Chase DC. As a city kid I swore I would never move that far out but it has a sort of small town feel rather than (to me dreaded) suburbia. Highlights for us are Lafayette park, Broad Branch market, upper CT avenue retail/restaurants/library etc. |

Another vote for the part of CC DC that's between Wisconsin and Connecticut. I live the other part, too, closer to Rock Creek that 12:26 describes but the western part is more walkable to more things. Library/community center to the east, retail overload and Metro to the west.
Some of this area is Murch, some is Janney and I think the farthest north part might even be Lafayette, but I could be wrong on that. |
| i LIKE the other part, sorry |
This is 12:26--I should have mentioned Rock Creek Park! I'd love to be near Metro but the park is a great trade-off. |
| OP here. How is commute to downtown from CCDC as compared from the American University area? |
|
depends on where exactly the house is -- both neighborhoods are quite huge.
Also: Metro? Driving? and where downtown (3rd and New Jersey vs. Farragut north.) all said, I have lived in both AU Park and CC DC and i think it's a complete toss up. I don't think Mass Ave. moves faster than Connecticut or Beach Drive, re: driving, or vice versa. The one exception would be if you found a house in waaay northeast part of CC DC, which is actually called Hawthorne or something. that's essentially Silver Spring. |

Love AU Park. Definitely places in your price range.
Depending on where in the neighborhood there is walkability to metro (though less expensive if you get closer to Mass Ave). There has been a new influx of restaurants (Pete's, Masala Art, etc), a new library, great elementary school (Janney), the Wilson pool, great little kids park, tennis courts etc. DH commutes via Mass, which is easy (but he goes in early/leaves early), I take metro. It's not as urban as living downtown, but you know that already. You get more green and more space. |
