Laptop or Ipad?

We need to replace a laptop that we basically use only for skyping and internet. I'm wondering whether we should just get a cheap laptop or whether an ipad would work (and which would actually be more useful in the long run.) Any thoughts? Thanks.

I think you can probably go with the iPad if you really won't be doing much typing. I need to have the keyboard always available for my purposes, and not sure if it'd work for me if I had to have the keyboard as an attachment and then standing up the iPad. I can see the pad working well for things like Skype, browsing, videos, etc.

We chose the ipad for the purpose and we love it. It is helpful to have another computer in the house though for storing music, documents, etc and for occasionally doing more involved computer work.
