Silver Spring area? Colesville?

Anonymous
Can anyone shed some light on Silver Spring in terms of what are considered to be the nicer areas? I'm not that familiar with the areas that make up Silver Spring (or at least bear a Silver Spring address). Any thoughts on Colesville? It seems to have a good elementary school, per greatschools.org...

I grew up in Colesville and now I live close to it in 4 corners. The schools are very good, it is a really great area. But it is very suburban, just so you are aware, it isn't all that close to much of anything but you do get big yards and quiet neighborhoods. It's not too far out that you can't easily get to stores, restaurants, etc. Maybe 10 minutes from rt 29 and 12-15 minutes from 495 and Rockville.

I live there now and this is exactly correct. I would add that I had a much easier time finding good childcare and my childcare is more flexible and reliable than my friends' who live further in. If you decide on that area, it takes a few years to reach the top of the waiting list for the local pool (Stonegate) and the Glenmont Metro station parking lot fills up by 7:30 on weekdays. Lots of options for churches and good close by summer camps.

Depends on what you're looking for. "Silver Spring" encompasses a large, very diverse area with about 5-6 zip codes. Do you need access to public transit or do you drive somewhere? Do you want to be in a more suburban area or do you want to walk to restaurants, shops, etc...? What size house are you trying to fit into what size budget?

In reference to the 15:45 poster-

There are tons of pools in Colesville--Stonegate is just one in one particular neighborhood. There are also Westover and Twin Farms, just to name two that are also both in Colesville.

OP, even just saying "Colesville" encompasses several neighborhoods. I grew up there. There are some I'd live in now with a family and others I probably wouldn't.
