Furnace & A/C Replacement

Anonymous
We have a 23 year old TH in Fairfax County and we are looking into replacing the existing furnace and A/C unit in the near future. The TH is about 1600 square feet. Does anyone know what the average replacement costs are?

If you are looking to do BOTH the furnace and AC (assuming you do not have a heat pump), add another 2.5-3K for the furnace.

Get three estimates. Use Checkbook or Angie's List to get an idea of what people think about the local heatling and cooling companies.

Thank you so much! Could you tell me which company you used?

Not exactly the same but we replaced the unit that serves our basement and first floors - furnace and AC unit. $7800. Like a PP suggested, we got 3 quotes using Checkbook and then compared not only products but warranty as well. We did "upgrade" by getting a whole house filter. FYI - we used Shanahan's and loved them.

Replaced both last summer. $9,995 for both.

We checked with Lowe's or Home Depot and another local vendor, and Ambience was by FAR the cheaperst (I am talking 3k difference).
The unit we bought was a Carrier with warranty.

you need to know the size of your current system (probably a 3 ton but don't quote me on that) and get three quotes from there.
