We have a 23 year old TH in Fairfax County and we are looking into replacing the existing furnace and A/C unit in the near future. The TH is about 1600 square feet. Does anyone know what the average replacement costs are? |
We did this 3 yrs ago, 1700sq ft 24 yo townhouse
Inside and outside unit (carrier 15 seer) was 5k |
If you are looking to do BOTH the furnace and AC (assuming you do not have a heat pump), add another 2.5-3K for the furnace.
Get three estimates. Use Checkbook or Angie's List to get an idea of what people think about the local heatling and cooling companies. |
By inside unit I meant furnace |

Thank you so much! Could you tell me which company you used? |
Not exactly the same but we replaced the unit that serves our basement and first floors - furnace and AC unit. $7800. Like a PP suggested, we got 3 quotes using Checkbook and then compared not only products but warranty as well. We did "upgrade" by getting a whole house filter. FYI - we used Shanahan's and loved them. |
Replaced both last summer. $9,995 for both. |

We checked with Lowe's or Home Depot and another local vendor, and Ambience was by FAR the cheaperst (I am talking 3k difference). The unit we bought was a Carrier with warranty. The contact is rohit@ambiance-hvac.com 571 437 9800 |
Just paid 7100 for a 3.5 ton Trane 15 seer system (inside and out) |
you need to know the size of your current system (probably a 3 ton but don't quote me on that) and get three quotes from there. |
