year-round schools?

| My DD will be starting kindergarten in 2012 and I am starting to look into schools/neighborhoods. Are there any places (preferably in NOVA) that have year-round schedules. Also, has anyone had any experiences )good or bad) with that type of schedule? Thanks! |

| I think Barcroft ES in Arlington does an extended school year. Check the Arlington County website as well as other counties for the school that have an extended school year. |

| I looked into this some time ago. If I remember correctly 2 of the elementary schools in Alexandria (city) have modified year schedules and a few schools in Fairfax county as well. In addition to Barcroft as PP noted. |

| Fairfax cut the year round programs in a sweep of budget cuts and no longer has any. All elementary schools now follow the traditional school calendar. |

| Barcroft still has the year-round schedule, with about a month of summer vacation. Check to make sure you're ok with the vacation schedule that they have - there are several times during the year where they have a week or two off and it might be a struggle to find child-care if both parents work full-time. |
