| my DH is a chef, a great chef, but he works all the time, I mean 13-16 hour days and he is never home. We finally were able to take a small vacation, and I guess something click in his brain during our family time off that he realize that he has missed all of our DS first year. He realized that spending time with family is actually really fun. So, now that he is back at work and back to working crazy hours and never ever seing us, he is thinking that maybe he can change things. I make decent money enough to live, he is thinking about downgrading from chef to a hourly pay employee were he will only be working forty hours a week during the day and he'll be home every night. This sounds so great, but, I am worry that he eventually will be frustated with taking a demotion. While, he is working less he is going to be working on opening his own place. Have this happened to anyone? |

No, but my DH did turn down a promotion because he wanted to keep a 40hr week. I'm all for it!
I would rather have less money and a husband that knows his children, has time to exercise, has time for his own hobbies, and be happy in my marriage. If your DH is planning on opening his own place in the future, I'm sure he knows that owning your own restaurant can be one of the most demanding and exhausting small business ventures. Opening a restaurant always sounds fun, but WOW, its a lot of work! |

Before he makes any choices, you should look at yesterday's Wash Post on the current down-turn and how it is hitting restaurants.
I certainly (and am all for) support limited hours so that he can see his kids grow. I also would hate for him to end up without a job altogether. |
