Protein snacks?

Anonymous
Totally in a rut here, looking for ideas. Seems that my kids are starving when I pick them up from school/daycare. I always bring them a snack (usually fruit since they are hot from running around). Lately it seems like they behave better after eating some protein this late in the day. They are 2 and 6, looking for things they can eat on the ride home. Cheese sticks were my go to all winter but who wants a cheese stick on a 90 degree day?! Any ideas would be great
Thanks!

Drinkable yogurt or kefir - bring it chilled. The kids' brands tend to be super sweet but kefir usually isn't as bad.

along the same lines, homemade fruit smoothies made with plain greek yogurt, which has a ton of protein. use some frozen fruit to make it particularly cold and refreshing (not to mention easier, since it's all chopped and peeled).

Gogurts have hardly any protein - 2g per tube, I think - and are full of sugar. Greek yogurt is much healthier, but obviously takes time to make a smoothie. I like to bring a bag of high protein cereal, or a bag of sunflower seeds (bc one of my kids is allergic to nuts - I'd bring nuts if I could). Or a protein bar, although those are not doable for people with nut allergy.

Greek yogurt - about 17g/cup depending on which brand

I would take them to Trader Joe's and let them pick out some nuts they like. Jerky is also good - can make at home if you're patient or get a dehydrator.

Larabars are good too, not too many additives.

Which cereals are high protein?

A lot of the kashi cereals - like kashi go lean - are high in protein.
