Does anyone have an indoor pool?

How much do you use it? How do you keep the kids safe and ensure that it is not a hazard when the kids are not in the pool. We are looking at buying a house with an indoor pool and it makes me very nervous. My kids are 5 and 2.5

I don't, but I would have a hard time buying a house with an indoor pool due to safety, cost, and humidity/maintenance issues.

get the kids swim lessons if safety is your biggest concern, way better then avoiding the situation altogether.

I used to teach private swim lessons, especially for preschool aged children with their own pool, If you teach the kids pool safety and how to keep themselves safe you practically eliminate the danger- in my experience the families who take this approach end up having more confident swimmers.

I agree but the pool also needs to be afe for visitors that might not swim or be too young to learn.

I went to school with a girl that had one. She always smelled like chlorine. Everything of hers did. Keept that in mind.

Ha!! I guess there are worse things to smell like.

I agree with above poster - maintenance, humidity, cleaning....more cleaning. Seems like a lot of trouble. Also seems like it might be muggy and dark compared to an outdoor pool.

But hey, if it's a frickin' mansion with an indoor pool area and huge skylight, and money is no object, go for it!

Use a padock or something. And quit bragging. You don't need us to make this type of decision.

Doesn't everyone? Sheesh!

OP here. Not bragging at all. The house really is not that big. The owners just happen to really like swimming. No one said that it was a McMansion with a huge skylight etc. I just had a safety question. Why so judgmental?

Only if it haS a retractable roof like mine!

Never. I would never buy a house with a pool - indoor or outdoor.

Wow, I am considering building an inground pool at my house.
Maybe one day I will have money to build a structure around it as well

I would love to have a pool. However, my DH is a lawyer and agrees w/ this mainly b/c of the risk and the increased cost to home owner's insurance, maintenance, etc.

No.
And I would not buy one, especially with young children around.
The pool membership is far cheaper than the maintenance and safety concerns of your own pool.

Another lawyer here. Would also never have a pool on my property. Grew up around friends who had indoor pools, and they were useful and cool growing up. OP, do not take into consideration those who use the expression Mcmansion. Code for jealous. Good luck with your decision.
