hi, all.
I need to get rid of an old couch that my cats have destroyed. salvation army doesn't want it; I doubt anyone would. it's pretty torn up. I need recs for a junk hauler. the ones I've seen so far, such as College Hunks Hauling Junk, seem pretty pricey to me (roughly $200) -- but maybe that's just how it is. I've never done this before. thanks. |
If you live in DC, go to 311.dc.gov and schedule bulk collection. They'll come and haul it away. |
love junk in the trunk. www.jitt.com they are really good and they donate many items to local charities. |
OP, where are you located? |
we have used 1-800-got junk. |
Post an Ad on Craigslist in the "gigs" section under "labor" for hauling the sofa. Don't put your specific address, just NW DC, N. Arlington, etc. and take the lowest bid. I bet you'll get someone to haul it away for $40 or less. In the ad tell them to put their phone number and you'll contact the lowest bidder. Watch out for people who say they want to see the job or give you a bid when they get there. It's a couch so they shouldn't charge more when they get there. If they try and get more out of you, thank them and contact the next lowest bidder (I've had this happen, and they are quick to honor their original price when they know I have many offers to remove the junk). |
we used college hunks for the same thing. finally decided it was worth it to use to get the couch out of the basement. |
Find a freind with one of those nasty gas guzzling pickups that you all seem to hate and pay him a case of beer to haul it to the dump. |
thanks for the suggestions.
for the PP who asked, I live in dupont circle. for the PP who mentioned 311 -- Do you happen to know... If you don't get trash pick-up with the city (my building uses a private trash company for some reason), will the city still pick up your large items for trash? |
forgot to say in the post above (13:37) -- I'm the OP. |
The guys who drive for college guy hauling junk will give you a cheaper price if you offer cash on the spot. they are obviously screwing the franchise owner, but, whatever. They wanted to charge me $600 for a full truckload of stuff, DH offered them $250 in cash and they took it all away. |
How much did the service cost? |
