every year we go through our taxes- and i guess i think it might be worth considering hiring a tax professional that would know our situation- give tax savings advice etc. what is the general cost for this? and to those of you who have someone doing your taxes- is it "worth it"? any advice or insights are appreciated..
(we already use software programs- i'm trying to understand the other side- having someone prepare your taxes for you) |

Nothing beats having your own tax guy. We have 11 schedules to be prepared due to our corporation and other holdings, so really software is not an option. However, if it is something that you can afford - think $500 - $1100, it is an investment in your future - truly.
It's someone to talk to during the year when you are wondering what to do, how to posture a decision. They get to know you, your situation and give good advice. |

If the software program works - meaning, your financial life is straightforward - you don't really need an accountant - turbo tax will do.
What you are asking about is a financial planner. The goal isn't to pay less tax, but to have the best return on your money (savings). If most of your income is wage income, you own some mutual funds and a retirement acct or two, you don't need an accountant. If, like pp, you have complicated holdings (corporate, self-employment income, investment properties....) turbotax won't cut it. |
