Beauty and Fashion
| I've just started biking to work and have to go through the busy lobby to get from the garage to the locker room. I dread bumping into co-workers looking like a sweaty slob. What do people wear? |
| Grab a pull on skirt (SkirtSports, Title9 and Terry all have tech material ones, or even just a cheap easy skirt from Old Navy). When I pull my helmet off, I can just redo the ponytail, or if you're really self conscious I suppose you could throw on a ballcap or something like that. Or, just unlatch the helmet but keep it on -- that way everyone knows why you look like a sweaty slob! |
| These are great stores--thanks! |

I bike 15mi to work, so I'm a big mess. I just roll on in with my bike and park it in my cube. I'm wearing my biker shorts and tank top and my clip in shoes that I can't even walk properly in. I then throw on my flip flops and walk on over to the gym where I get ready.
I never thought to be concious of the way I look. Most people are in awe that I bike to work and I've inspired a few people at the office to bike from time to time. |
| OP here, you are braver than I am! My office is pretty stuffy and I've never seen any of the biking women wearing anything other than what looks like normal work clothes (although occasionally guys show up in spandex). I think I'm going to go for those biking skorts. |
What is the worst that can happen? They think you are a nut job for living a healthy lifestyle? I think most people will be impressed with your drive and self-confidence, if you decide to reveal it. Personally, I think it will be more humerous to see someone in a skirt who looks like they just worked out. I see some women at the gym in skirts and I'm about as mystified with that as I am with those toe/glove shoes. Skirts are for tennis courts. |
| I just feel unprofessional--that's the vibe in my office. I think skirts in gyms are weird too and don't get me started on those creepy glove shoes. But, biking in a skort doesn't seem like that bad a sartorial sin. |
| Wear biking clothes- tshirt and bike shorts. For work, bring a dress rolled up in a purse/bag tied up using bungee cord. |

OP, how far is your office? And how much biking experience do you have? I cannot even imagine biking in proper biking shorts that are not padded in the crotch. HOLY bruised vagina! If you are biking any sort of distance on a hard bike seat without proper biking pants you are going to be quite sore between your legs.
I do about 90 miles on a bike a week and even a mere 10 miles without the padded shorts sounds pretty miserable. |
| Here's how I do it. In cool weather I just roll in my office wear. In this heat, I put on bike shorts underneath a skirt, wear a tank top, and bring a drapey, officey cardigan in a nice color. When I get to work I readjust the ponytail, throw the cardigan on over my tank, and chnage out of my bike shorts in the ladies room. |

I'm 13:37, I do the skirt thing since it seems a little more modest than walking in the office in just tight spandex. Another option, Terry makes padded shorts that look like cargo shorts - they're meant for mountain biking in terms of fashion but might be less off putting than tight spandex bike shorts when you arrive at work if that's your concern.
OP, it probably also depends whether you're riding a simple commuter bike a few miles, or putting in serious miles on a road bike. I've done both and my appearance when I get to the office and what I wear when riding are very different. |
| Again, thanks every one. My office is 10 miles away and so far no bruises but it sounds like I should get proactive on that! Biked today with H&M pull on skirt and bike shorts which seems like a good formula. |
