Strawberry dessert for picnic

Anonymous
I have 2 pints of strawberries that are ready to be used. I also have a picnic playdate (3 adults, 4 kids) planned for tomorrow. I'm hoping the two can go together!

My initial thought was strawberry cupcakes, but I worry about the frosting melting in the heat. Suggestions? Thanks!

Strawberry tarts?

Strawberry-rhubarb pie or crisp? Strawberries and cream? Just plain strawberries?

Definitely strawberries & cream. Chop the strawberries into 2-4 pieces and let them sit overnight in a bowl in the fridge with some sugar--about 1 tablespoon per person. Serve with whipped cream. Preferably heavy cream you whipped yourself. It should keep for a few hours in a cooler.

I'd get some angel food cake and some cool whip or bottled whipped cream -- I'd be too afraid that home-made whipped cream wouldn't keep as well.

Strawberry shortcake.

A friend made this dessert recently it was soooo good don't have exact proportions but you don't really need them
Pound cake cut into cubes
Custard or vanilla pudding (she did custard)
Sliced strawberries
Mix everything together and let sit in the fridge overnight (you can do less if you don't have the time)
Top with whipped cream

I totally agree w/ PP about the sliced berries with whipped cream also, it is a great simple/fast dessert

Thanks everyone! I decided on whole strawberries and dip - cream cheese (I thought it'd hold up better in a cooler) and chocolate (we'll see how well it holds up). All the suggestions for berries & cream made me feel like it wasn't a cop-out dessert --- you know the pressure of playdates!!

Summer strawberry cake......I've made this cake twice already and my sis used this recipe with blueberries.

I modified the amount of sugar to 3/4 cup and 3 tsp of turbinado sugar for the top.

Tastes great with honey greek yogurt as an alternative to whipped cream

Crepes. Take the sliced strawberries in a separate container, with a little sugar and a splash of OJ, and have each person wrap up a spoonful of strawberries in their crepe.
