Following up after a (great) job interview

I had a great interview almost two weeks ago. They seemed to really like me and the whole thing was extremely positive. They talked about bringing me back in to meet a couple more people. I wrote my thank you letters. And yet, I have not heard from them. Is a follow-up in order?

Did you ask them what the next step would be? When you could expect to hear something? How many people were being considered for the position? I always remind myself to ask these things at the end of an interview.

If you have no idea what timeframe they're working on, then a follow-up after (note: after) 2 weeks isn't out of the question; just phrase it as a polite, professional inquiry on where they are in the process.
