Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
|
http://apps.washingtonpost.com/highschoolchallenge/schools/2011/list/national/
how does the Fairfax county high schools stack up nationally? |
| FFPS stacks up in general. But this list is clearly deficient. Almost none of the Pennsylvania power schools from the main line show up until well into the list as well the Massachusetts's Newton North, Winchester, & Wellesley High Schools which are the power schools there. |
| Same with the Chicago suburban power schools, way down the list too... |
| The rankings are based on the percent of students taking challenging curriculum, not on how they did. |
| Yes , some of the schools seem right on - Lowell, etc. But the ones that are missing are really evident and the criteria for deciding rankings are clearly problematic. |

Where was TJ?
|
| The Index is not considered an effective measure for strong magnet programs or private schools. I suppose you could calculate a number though for each school by dividing the number of AP exams taken by the number of seniors. |
| They don't rank TJ or any of the magnet schools. |
| I don't trust any of these ratings anymore. |
But the #1 school is "Science/Engineering Magnet" of Dallas. |
