Most people I know want to move there for the outdoorsy lifestyle, skiing, hiking, etc. Duh.

One of my childless friends moved to Denver (and then to Boulder) and loves it. She grew up in the Midwest and also lived in Tampa for several years. She loves the Colorado weather and the outdoorsy lifestyle. She's taken up hiking, snowshoeing, cycling, and yoga. She's lost 15 pounds and is far less stressed. She's a nurse, so finding a job was easy.

lived there for 4 years.

1) cost of living
2) weather - lots of sunny days and the snow doesn't stick around for too long
3) people are so nice it's almost weird
4) healthier lifestyles. people exercise and know how to relax
5) proximity to west coast, east coast, vegas.
6) honking your horn is really uncool.

Lived there for 8 years. Loved every minute and am hoping to go back for all of the reasons listed above (except #5--I would argue it's not really close to anything).

I'm visiting in a couple weeks. I've only been to Telluride, so I'm excited about seeing more.

Lived in Denver/ Boulder for years and loved it. Great for couples, singles, families. Soooooo much better than DC!!

My husband grew up in CO and we talk about moving back. But we have great jobs here and jobs may be an issue there (even if he found a good job that could support us I'd still want to work).

Also all of our family is relatively nearby (his family moved to the east when he was 15 and they've stayed) and it's SO nice having my parents and having my kids get to see their grandparents and cousins etc. so frequently. I think being across the country would be really tough.

I grew up in a suburb of Denver. What I miss most (other than my family) is seeing the mountains every day and the low humidity. And as much as I love trees, I do miss the wide open views you can get in Colorado.

I grew up in the Denver suburbs. I really agree with 12:27.
However, 2 downsides.
1. The pollution is horrible. Its the way the city is situated at the base of a mountain. Pollutants get trapped there. Look up "Denver brown cloud"
2. Its is very dry.
So, we're looking to move to PA, which has a lot of the same qualities. Except the people aren't as nice, and although many people exercise, there's not a culture of exercise like in Colorado.

Tattered Cover (independent bookstore), Paris on the Platte (cafe/restaurant) and I could go on. . .

Is this a problem only in the Denver or does it affect the surrounding suburbs. How suburbs do you recommend that would be fairly close to the city?

When I lived there in the 80's it affected city and 50 miles out. Denver does have a lot to recommend, but you will drive everywhere, even with the light rail. Denver city schools have a lot of issues and some of the suburban schools are extremely underfunded. Real conservative/liberal split like it is a lot of one or the other.
