immediate placement into AAP

Anonymous
Hello,
I just moved to Fairfax county and would like DC to be considered for immediate placement into AAP. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with the process that you would like to share. Are the criteria for acceptance the same as if DC was referred/tested during the school year?
Thank you.

No experience with your situation, but here is a link to the procedure, which you may already have seen: http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/aap/identificationntc.html

I don't know YET how the process works, but we will be submitting the paperwork for our child when we return to Fairfax County this summer. Day one, we register at the school; day two, we go to drop off the paperwork at the Programs office (haven't called yet for the appointment but will soon).

And yes, I know we could just wait for the "new student" testing in the fall, but our child will be going on her fourth school in five years (due to our moving around), so changing classrooms and adding another transition to AAP in January is not something we want for her if we can avoid it. I also would not be pursuing the immediate placement if her test scores, teacher commentary, and report cards didn't support it.

OP here.
I am trying the immediate placement for the same reasons. I do not want him to have to change classes in the middle of the school year. If you don't mind me asking, what are you planning to include in your application? Has she tested for the WISC-IV yet? And if she did it locally, any recommendation as to which psychologist to use?
Thanks!

We did do the testing locally (we're originally from Fairfax, but moved overseas and still have family in the area). We went back over Spring Break to do the testing, since absolutely no standardized testing is done in our current international school. We used Laurie Smith in Vienna, and found her to be very professional.

I printed off the forms from the AAP website and had her current teacher fill out the GBRS -- not that I'm sure she really understood what they were asking for as "specific examples" to support the scores, but she did provide background on the PYP/IB experience DD has had and her reading level scores, along with the school-based work samples.

I was advised by the AAP teacher/counselor at the school she'll be attending to provide whatever we could upfront.

Thank you! Good luck!

If there is not a procedure, there should be. My DD also moves a lot (military) and by the time she qualified, I was not willing to make her change schools again.
