Art supplies/books for kindergartner?

Anonymous
Any recommendations for products (drawing utensils, books, etc.) to encourage a kindergarten student who loves drawing? My nephew's birthday is coming up and I'd like to give him a present that encourages his interest in art but I am not sure about what types of products would be age appropriate. Thanks!

I teach art to this age group. This includes learning about great artists. They LOVED it, and I found it to be very age appropriate.

I highly recommend any of the children's books by Laurence Anholt and the "Touch the art" book series.

There is also another book about 2 dinosaurs that is adorable. I think the name "Max" is in the title. I have seen it at Barnes and Noble.

The "I Spy" art books.

Perhaps a junior art kit that includes oil pastels, crayons, markers, pencils. (Upscale toy stores, AC Moore, Michael's, Pearls.)

A gift card to an art store w/ one or more of the art books I mentioned may be a good idea (?!)

Me again!

The dinosaur book is called "Art & Max."
Also, there is a new Fancy Nancy book about famous artists.
i think you will be surprised how many fantastic children's books there are on this subject.

Don't forget kid scissors as an art supply -- my kindergarten son loves to cut spirals and patterns and make his art 3-D.

Make sure markers, paints, etc. are washable.

My son loved painting on canvases with tempera paints. We also bought a big roll of butcher paper at SAMs Club and it's lasted a long time.
