Adult summer reading

Anonymous
Can anyone recommend some great summer reading? I typically enjoy Nicholas Sparks, Sandra Brown and Jodi Piccoult but am open to any suggestions. Thanks!

Some good ones I've read:

Run by Ann Patchett
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
Zorro by Isabel Allende
Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende

I'm interested in other people's responses too, I need a good book to read

An oldie but goodie is A Thousand splendid suns. Should be on everyones must read list.

Shantaram is also great.

Have you read The Help by Kathryn Stockett? It was good. Just read The Ask by Sam Lipsyte. A little heavy, but funny in a black humor sort of way.

I am reading The Glass Castle and I can't put it down.

Yes, that was like a train wreck. An awful story but so good.

I found it very depressing.

Why?

Why? Just because we don't consider War and Peace light summer reading?? If you don't have anything to contribute, go away.

Pretty much anything by Barbara Kingsolver, especially The Poisonwood Bible

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Drowning Ruth
Love in the time of Cholera

What are you talking about? At least we're reading. The Ask was a National Book Award finalist. I agree that the authors OP mentioned were a little pedestrian but she's looking for other suggestions. Do you expect us to read Schopenhauer on the beach?

Summer/beach reading is generally light, which is what the OP was asking for. No need to be nasty.

Not exactly light, but completely engrossing and I am taking every opportunity to recommend it to people: Sarah's Key.
