Who to call to move a single large piece of furniture to a different room?

We have an old, giant armoire that needs to be moved from a bedroom to our basement. I assume traditional movers wouldn't come out to move a single piece of furniture. Do know any company that does this?

Can you take the doors/drawers off to lessen the weight and promise a friend some beers on the deck afterward?

Craigslist is the way to go. Search movers.

I've seen people post on the neighborhood listserv asking high school or college kids for help.

When I've needed this sort of help I went to a day laborer center.

Lol. Yes. Leave some sort evidence for the authorities to follow a trail to your stolen merchandise and or your lifeless body. Be careful, for goodness sakes, op.

At least there would be some sort of trail. Unlike going through day laborers.

I would ask for help from a neighbor or a friend.

What I've done before is call a local antique shop and ask for a recommendation. A lot of them use independent movers that would be glad to move something like that for you--usually for about $100.
