Why is everything so low cut??

Anonymous
Why is every blouse and dress so low cut in the decolette these days? I find myself using safety pins nearly every day, whether its a business or casual look, or wearing a cami. I am wearing one today under a v-neck shift dress and I think it looks stupid, but I didn't notice in the dressing room that you could see my bra if I moved the wrong way. I personally feel that cleavage is not appropriate for the office, and I'm not comfortable with it on the weekends either. I have noticed a lot of women with safety pins at their neckline, too, so I'm not the only one. What gives - is the fashion industry aiming at more adventurous women or New York or what?

AGREE!!!

i work in a business casual office and i cannot buy a dress or a blouse to save me life and sick to death of wearing camis under everything. not comfortable, esp in the summer.

every time i go shopping, i end up infuriated and unable to spend money. so i hear you.

I agree. And don't even get me started on the maternity clothes when my boobs were that much bigger.

I am petite so this trend is 10x worse for me, because everything is low cut on me anyway. Even camis, the straps are often too long, so I have to hike them over my bra so it doesn't show.

Pretty much same for me, as for PP. I'm petite up in the bust (but regular size below -- yippee for disproportion!) So I'm always struggling with tops being ultra unflattering for me.

Because everyone's overweight now and figures they should show off the cleavage, or everyone's getting boob jobs? I have the same complaint. A big-busted friend once asked me why I always wear variations on the same types of shirts and I said, "because most shirts don't look good on A-cup figures with broad shoulders." (I'm very athletic/muscular.) It's become standard for me to close my necklines with safety pins.

you should look into getting a bandeau to wear instead of a full cami. might help some.

Ugh. I've got a safety pin on my dress right now. I have a stack of tanks and camis I have wear as well. I'm a D-cup, so it's bad enough I already can't wear anything sleeveless for fear of massive side-boob exposure. Frustrating.

Was going to post something similar. I have gargantuan boobs so anything with a higher neck makes my boobs look like they are at my waist. So I look for v neck and scoop neck but my bra ALWAYS shows. Always. Even when inwear a medium, not a large. I think that the area between my chest and shoulders must be extra short, because sleeveless shirts are always too low.

agree. just had the tailors sew up the cleavage of a tshirt i bought at banana republic ($3, well worth it). just does not seem appropriate for work or elsewhere.

What the hell does "decollette" or "bandeau" mean anyway?

I so agree with this post. I would like to suggest that we boycott the low cut look, but there must be enough women buying this stuff to stock it in the stores.

Agree. Everything is low cut, everything is sleeveless, everything is above the knee. And these are clothes that you find if you google "business dress." Young girls comes into my place of work with no idea what is appropriate.

At least you are aware of the problem. There is a 30 something woman in my office (gov lawyer) who just shows cleavage every day.
