I burnt the beans

Anonymous
I was trying to multi-task the other night and I forgot I was cooking a pot of beans (from dry beans, so they take awhile). I completely scorched the pot of beans and now I cannot get my pot cleaned. It's a puerto rican style pot, a caldero. Any tips for getting out the charred bean residue? I've boiled a water and baking soda and it didn't do a thing to loosen the remains. I think I may have to toss it.

What is the pot made of?

Bar Keeper's Friend and some elbow grease will get just about anything off my stainless steel cookware.

It's made of cast aluminum. It's one of those pots that gets better with age. I'll try the BKF, thanks!

Thanks everyone. After nearly a week of soaking and two boiling water to loosen the grit - I tried BKF. It worked like a charm. The pot has been saved!
