Basic cooking class

Anonymous
I can't cook. I can swing hard boiled eggs, baked chicken (as in, I can bake it.. seasoning is another story), and simple salads. DH has a new job that will require him to travel more which means I'll have to actually cook every now and then. Can anyone recommend a good basics class? Preferably metro accessible.

I don't have any classes to recommend, but can recommend some basic cookbooks. These all have really basic instructions, like how long it takes to cook green beans.

I am also a fan of the recipes in Real Simple.

Keep dinners simple so you don't get overwhelmed. At first maybe just one hot dish and a salad. Plan ahead so that you have all the ingredients available. Measure carefully and follow the directions--at least until you are comfortable winging it in the kitchen.

A rice cooker can be your friend if you like foods that go well with rice. A crockpot can also be a great tool for getting supper on the table at a reasonable hour when you are the only parent at home.

L'academie du cuisine in Bethesda is where I learned to cook years ago. Not sure if it's still open but def look into it.

Arlington school district has a great adult continuing education program, with tons of cooking classes. Hughly recommend them. And they are very affordable.

How about Netflix-ing cooking shows? Julia Child would be fun as well as informative.

How about a chef coming to your house for classes?
