Joining a swim club?

Anonymous
In past years we've gone with MIL to her club when invited, but this year really find ourselves wanting go be able to just pick up and go when WE want to. Can anyone enlighten me on the average cost of a summer membership to one of these neighborhood-ish swim-only and swim-and-tennis clubs? Thanks.

Anywhere from $500 - $1000 a year (plus sometimes a capital payment).

Ours was a $450 buy in, which you can pay over two years. The annual dues were $450 for a family of 5. It is a bit less if your family is smaller. I have friends who belong to a club that costs about $300 for the family membership, plus a $200 buy in. Their pool never has a waiting list, but is very nice.

Our buy in was about $1500. Dues are about $500 per year (for a family of 5)

The two closest pools to us have a $1000 buy-in and dues of $500+ per year. Also longish waitlists!

are there any pools that don't have wait lists?

what area are you looking at?

If you are looking in close in Montgomery County pools are expensive and ofter have long waitlists - our has a $1100 buy in and is $900 a year; one down the street is similarly priced. I assume the more reasonable prices can be found farther out.

This is an inside the beltway NoVA pool. Not far out.

I believe Kent Gardens in Mclean currently doesn't have a wait list ($450 buy in, and $550 a year).

We rent a membership at a Bethesda neighborhood pool for about $650. They have August only rentals too.

Well maybe that is Bethesda, but over in Silver Spring, there are lots of community pools which don't have wait lists and are fine and close it. Cost about $450 buy in and $450 or something for a season.

Here are a few:
Forest Knolls Pool
Northwest Branch Pool
Kemp Mill Pool
Parkland Pool

Here are names of pools, do a google search and see if they are close to you.
