Has Anyone Been Prescribed Aldara for Molluscum?

Anonymous
My child just got diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum and the doctor outlined 4 treatments -- acid, freeze them off, do nothing, and aldara. I chose aldara because it supposedly isn't painful. Just wondering if anyone else has used this for their kids and whether it was successful. Were there any complications? TIA.

We were prescribed retin A for molluscum and it worked. Used Aldara for plantar warts.

We're using Zyma Derm on our son's molluscum. So far I don't see much change, but at least it is not spreading.

I used OTC acne medicine - good old benzyol peroxide and it dried them right up.

yes - it worked.

I used salicylic (sp?) acid (same as crushed-up aspirin) acne treatment and worked overnight.

What is with all the molluscum? Is it normal that every child I know has it all of a sudden? None of my older children have had it, but now all of a sudden my two youngest have been hit twice. What gives?

My son was prescribed Aldara, and it did work, but not the first time. We went through every conceivable effort to get rid of the molluscum (mostly on his stomach), and one of the early treatments was Aldara. But we only applied once every other night, I wasn't religious about it, and it didn't seem to work well enough (fast enough) for us. After freezing and burning and duct taping didn't work, and when it became something my son was very self-conscious about (summer), we did the Aldara again, but this time, we were very methodical. We applied every night to every bump, and within about a month, it was over.

Good luck.

Were you worried about any of the side effects?

We used Aldara for warts, and it didn't seem to work. She would get the warts frozen, then Aldara for 3 weeks. Did 3 cycles and gave up, went back to salicylic acid and they cleared up right away - I'm wondering if the Aldara/freezing regimen was enough to weaken the virus, and the salicylic acid finally was able to "boot it out" (previous treatment of salicylic acid hadn't worked). Was slightly concerned about the side effects, which was why we stopped when we weren't seeing much improvement.

This is OP. What strength of salicylic acid did you use? What is OTC or prescription? TIA.

My youngest had it. The pediatrician gave us several treatment options but heavily suggested that we just wait it out.

We did and it disappeared on it's own.

16:19 again - just OTC salicylic acid - not even brand name, just the generic one from the pharmacy. We put it on twice a day - her whole heel had been covered in warts, and we battled it for about 2 years using OTC stuff (duct tape, salicylic acid, wart remover pads, EVERYTHING), before we went to a derm who did the freezing/Aldara thing. It cleared up in about 2 weeks after we restarted the salicylic acid.
