Infertility Support and Discussion

Hi Everyone,
I had my first IUI one week ago and was prescribed the Progesterone supplements which I started twice/day 3 days after the IUI. I've been experiencing some pretty severe cramping the last two days and wondering what this means. I do plan to call the nurse this morning, but sometimes it takes a while for them to get back to me and I'm really nervous this is not a good sign. Can anyone shed some light on this at all? Also, I'm still unclear on what purpose these supplements are supposed to serve? The cramping mainly happens shortly after the supplements, and it feels like severe gas. thanks in advance! |
| Are you using the suppositories? I never had cramping, but I am sure the nurse will have some good advice - the leading cause of miscarriage (as I understand it) early on is low progesterone, so they give it to you to head off that issue - a lot of people never realize that low progesterone is why the embryo wasn't implanting and then growing . . or so they told me when I asked. I did spot and cramp a bit for a few days after my IUI, but nothing a week later - |
| OP here - yes I'm using the suppositories. They are a bit messy, but it's the cramping which has been the worst side effect for me (I've also been feeling quite tired, not sure if that is a good sign or a side effect yet). thank you ! |
| 8:04 here - I think the progesterone mimics pregnancy which makes you tired - and they are totally messy - they also made me itchy. Sigh. I hope they can help you with the cramping - perhaps they could switch you to a different kind of suppository (or worst case the shot in the bum) |
