Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
My baby was being fed Breast milk exclusively for the last 9 and 1/2 months. She never once got sick, not even a sniffle. I just started to substitute with formula or rather now she only gets one bottle of BM a day. All of the sudden a week or so later she is sick. Is that a coincidence or what!! I am making myself sick to think that due to my laziness of not wanting to pump anymore I'm putting my daughter's health in jeopardy.
Yes. Coincidence. I can't fathom your ped. would say any different if you asked them.
I am sure it isn't your fault. When my DD was that age she was still breastfed, and while she had never been sick before, she got really sick. She had a fever of 105 , taken in the ER, after a dose of tylenol, given just prior to leaving for the ER. There were repeated visits to the ER before the infections started to show up in both her ears, something I didn't think would happen because she was breastfed. You just never know when, or how, a virus is going to strike.
I stopped breastfeeding when my DD was 6 months old. To this day (she is now 3) she has only had a fever once and it was minor. I have a friend who breastfed exclusively for a year and her DD was ALWAYS sick. It's a total coincidence!
Coincidence. My daughter was never sick until she started crawling and therefore, getting more germs. I BF. My neighbors daughter is FF and also didn't get sick until when she started being more mobile.
Don't beat yourself up. My EBF DS got his first cold at 5 months. BM probably helped him get over it faster because I got it too (so he was getting my antibodies). I don't think breastfeeding is going to prevent them from getting sick if they are exposed to another sick child in a very contagious stage, for instance. You did a great thing for your child and her immune system by breastfeeding for 9.5 months. Don't forget that!
Complete coincidence.

I fed my kid prunes, and the next day he crawled for the first time.
COINCIDENCE! |
My 10 month old is formula fed and he has never been sick.
